A Decision to Wait

embrace_the_current_season

Mike lost his job.

We saw this coming; he didn’t loose it out of the blue.  See, his work contracted him to stay through the election…the election last November.  They extended his time through January, then again through March, and then again through April.   We hoped he might find a permanent position with that company while staying on through this spring.  But as of right now he rocks at unpacking boxes and being a house-husband, which honestly is extremely helpful at this point in time.

We also knew about the potential need to live off one income when we put a bid on this current new home.  Our mortgage is only based on one salary, so while the living ain’t easy the checks will get paid.

There is only one issue looming over my head and heart: trying again for a baby.

We are not presently trying to expand our family.  We are going to wait.

I type this with much uneasy trepidation. To try again to conceive that baby, to give me what I feel I lost, would be an easy fix for my grief.  Getting pregnant again would give me freedom from this pain, filling the void with a new chance.  But I am only one part of this equation.

My heart almost understands what my head comprehends: we have a new house and a bone dry savings account, Mike wants to feel like a provider and contributor, we can use this time to prepare for what comes next.

But for the individual who stocks extra items as backup in case something happens to the original? To the girl who runs on dreams?  To the teacher who tends to others’ children day in and day out?  To the woman whose biological clock ticks towards having a babe?    This will take time to surrender to patience.

One Year Anniversary!

Salamon Wedding-CrowndVic stairs

We made it through our first year of marriage! I hear that the first year is the hardest, and I’m honestly not sure why.  I think since Mike & I lived together for about 6 years prior we ironed out many kinks and made a smooth transition to our new labels as “husband and wife.”

But I know more than one thing: my partner is supportive, caring, loving, and strong.  The dog may like him better, but that’s only because he takes such good care of her, which makes my heart happy.

Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we’re together
Love you when we’re apart

And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
For the things you do endear you to me
Oh, you know I will, I will

Song(s) of the Moment

My name is Vicki and I have a pop-music related ringtone problem.

whew.

That felt good to get off my chest.

If you live within earshot of my cellphone, it’s no secret I love to apply hip, trendy songs as my ringtone.  If it’s on the top 10 list, then you’re free to joke about hearing it when someone calls me. and my friends do this regularly.

Rhianna’s Umbrella {ella ella ella} started this trend.

Then some Britney Spears’ random song took over (remember when she *tried* to come back?).

For awhile I broke the trend with the 30 Rock themesong. {dun dun, dun dundundun dun dun, dun dun dundun dun…doo doo doo doodoo doo doo do da do <–just like that}

Then I broke into chick rock with some Florence + the Machine’s Dog Days Are Over and some KT Tunstall’s Suddenly I See for a hot second, each.

I even mixed things up with some hip hop when I had Chris Brown (featuring Lil Wayne & Busta)  Look at Me Now, which I loved but had to pick up before the curse words rang out.

As of recently the random-phone-provided-electronic-song plays and I simply can’t pick a new pop song, because I ruin every song for myself (and all my friends)!  It gets so much radio play, then I hear it whenever anyone calls me, and GAH. enough of the pop songs.

But right now I desperately want to apply Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know.

I resist, because I know what that will do to the song, and what the radio has already done to that song.

If only I could get the one part when the backup singers sort-of yell out, “Somebody!”  Because that would be grand. and funny. and totally not weird.

I think I help these songs become played out.

So, halp.  What song should be my new ringtone that is not already played on the radio 500bagillion times?

What ringtones are your favorite?

10 or 11 things

Vicki bride Crowndvic

There are 2 memes going around in which you share 10 or 11 things about yourself, answer some questions, and tag people.  And Joey tagged me.   Here goes!

yes, I intend to use wedding pictures for awhile

Here’s my random mess that I call my life!

10 or 11 Random Things About Vicki:

1)  I was born & raised in Florida but dislike citrus fruits.

2) I danced ballet for 12 years and even though we live 1/2 block from a ballet studio, do not dance today.  This should change.  soon.  bug me about this, please.

3)  Since I started driving there has always been a Weezer sticker on my car.  Presently, one still sticks!

4) Food allergies include ALL shellfish but without EPIpen prescription.  Food Intolerance include: cauliflower, lima beans, all squash including pumpkin and a gluten sensitivity

5) I cannot donate blood, since my family & I lived in Wales in the midst of the Mad Cow Crisis (I am Mad Cow Disease Free!).

6) My favorite fruit is a tie between the black currant and elderberry.  SO GOOD.

7) I LOVE St. Germain liquor (elberberry)

8 ) Before declaring an elementary education major, I was a communications major with an focus on writing.

9) Talking on the phone drives me crazy, but I do it. (please for the love of G-d text  or email me)

10) Back in the day I won a trip to Space Camp where I met my first “boyfriend” and then returned (with payment) to Space Academy the next year.  We broke up (shocking, I know) but then years later a girl I went to middle school with ended up dating the same guy at the Naval Academy!

11)  I used to bite my nails. I quit. I sometimes relapse. But I love having painted nails!

Joey ‘s Q’s for me:

Is it soda or Pop? & What is your favorite?

It’s soda. duh.  and I LOVE seltzer water, but on an off day I crave Coke Zero.

What is your “go-to” outfit when you need one?

Easy.  That’s my black leggings, grey sweater dress, and grey boots.

Tell me what you’re reading, and why?

I finished the Hunger Games and so am reading the Hunger Games Companion Novel. I’m supposed to be reading The Night Circus for Book Club…

Name a Reality TV show you’d like to go on, and why?

-Toddlers and Tiaras, to smack the shit outta those parents

Tell me the best blog you think I should start reading.

I’m too inconsistent with my blog reading to answer that one!

If you had to move out of your current state, where would you go?

Chicago, Illinois.  Or if I had to leave DC, I’d simple go across the bridge to Virginia ;) But DC is not a state so does this question even count?!

What is the one thing you cannot live without (cannot be a person)?

I cannot live without water. I drink 3 liters a day!

What would your final meal consist of?

Forget the freakin’ food, I want to be surrounded by family, loved ones, and fur-babies!!!

If you had to pick a song to be the “soundtrack of your life” – what would it be?

I sat on the draft of this post for a WHOLE week, not knowing how to answer this one question!

So instead of one song, here’s the complete-work-in-progress soundtrack to my life:

Candle on the Water, by Helen Reddy, from Pete’s Dragon

Why Should I Worry? by Billy Joey, from Oliver and Company

Children of Jack,  Guy Forsyth

Center of Attention, by Guster

Walk on the Ocean, Toad the Wet Sprocket

Meet Virgina, by Train

My Stupid Mouth, by John Mayer

Weezer, Undone (The Sweater Song)

Paper Bag, by Fiona Apple

Penny Lane, by The Beatles

Shake it Out, Florence & the Machine

Something in the Water, by Brooke Fraser

I Will, The Beatles

Ok, I tag (with no obligation):

Ali at Luckiest Girl Ever

Kassi  & Kaylie at Truly Lovely

Chelsea at Chelsea’s Psycho Babble

Krysten at Why Girls are Weird

and anyone else who wants to do it!

Answer the same Qs I did :)
