10 or 11 things

Vicki bride Crowndvic

There are 2 memes going around in which you share 10 or 11 things about yourself, answer some questions, and tag people.  And Joey tagged me.   Here goes!

yes, I intend to use wedding pictures for awhile

Here’s my random mess that I call my life!

10 or 11 Random Things About Vicki:

1)  I was born & raised in Florida but dislike citrus fruits.

2) I danced ballet for 12 years and even though we live 1/2 block from a ballet studio, do not dance today.  This should change.  soon.  bug me about this, please.

3)  Since I started driving there has always been a Weezer sticker on my car.  Presently, one still sticks!

4) Food allergies include ALL shellfish but without EPIpen prescription.  Food Intolerance include: cauliflower, lima beans, all squash including pumpkin and a gluten sensitivity

5) I cannot donate blood, since my family & I lived in Wales in the midst of the Mad Cow Crisis (I am Mad Cow Disease Free!).

6) My favorite fruit is a tie between the black currant and elderberry.  SO GOOD.

7) I LOVE St. Germain liquor (elberberry)

8 ) Before declaring an elementary education major, I was a communications major with an focus on writing.

9) Talking on the phone drives me crazy, but I do it. (please for the love of G-d text  or email me)

10) Back in the day I won a trip to Space Camp where I met my first “boyfriend” and then returned (with payment) to Space Academy the next year.  We broke up (shocking, I know) but then years later a girl I went to middle school with ended up dating the same guy at the Naval Academy!

11)  I used to bite my nails. I quit. I sometimes relapse. But I love having painted nails!

Joey ‘s Q’s for me:

Is it soda or Pop? & What is your favorite?

It’s soda. duh.  and I LOVE seltzer water, but on an off day I crave Coke Zero.

What is your “go-to” outfit when you need one?

Easy.  That’s my black leggings, grey sweater dress, and grey boots.

Tell me what you’re reading, and why?

I finished the Hunger Games and so am reading the Hunger Games Companion Novel. I’m supposed to be reading The Night Circus for Book Club…

Name a Reality TV show you’d like to go on, and why?

-Toddlers and Tiaras, to smack the shit outta those parents

Tell me the best blog you think I should start reading.

I’m too inconsistent with my blog reading to answer that one!

If you had to move out of your current state, where would you go?

Chicago, Illinois.  Or if I had to leave DC, I’d simple go across the bridge to Virginia ;) But DC is not a state so does this question even count?!

What is the one thing you cannot live without (cannot be a person)?

I cannot live without water. I drink 3 liters a day!

What would your final meal consist of?

Forget the freakin’ food, I want to be surrounded by family, loved ones, and fur-babies!!!

If you had to pick a song to be the “soundtrack of your life” – what would it be?

I sat on the draft of this post for a WHOLE week, not knowing how to answer this one question!

So instead of one song, here’s the complete-work-in-progress soundtrack to my life:

Candle on the Water, by Helen Reddy, from Pete’s Dragon

Why Should I Worry? by Billy Joey, from Oliver and Company

Children of Jack,  Guy Forsyth

Center of Attention, by Guster

Walk on the Ocean, Toad the Wet Sprocket

Meet Virgina, by Train

My Stupid Mouth, by John Mayer

Weezer, Undone (The Sweater Song)

Paper Bag, by Fiona Apple

Penny Lane, by The Beatles

Shake it Out, Florence & the Machine

Something in the Water, by Brooke Fraser

I Will, The Beatles

Ok, I tag (with no obligation):

Ali at Luckiest Girl Ever

Kassi  & Kaylie at Truly Lovely

Chelsea at Chelsea’s Psycho Babble

Krysten at Why Girls are Weird

and anyone else who wants to do it!

Answer the same Qs I did :)

Nude Lips

There’s a new makeup/fashion trend that I can’t get fully behind.  It looks great from day to day, when done right.  But for a fancy night out at the Oscars, I felt classy red (or any bold color) did more justice when paired with ballgowns.

Exhibit A, B, & C:

Amongst many other women, Gwenyth Paltrow, JLo, and Kristen Wigg {via} all sported natural looking lip color.  Sometimes with white dresses you don’t want to overdo the makeup, I get that.  But these ladies are all beautiful and their lip makeup all says “just another regular day” to me.

Whereas Milla Jovovich {via} rocked the red, stunning lip color!

How gorgeous was her dress, by the way?!?!

Angelina Jolie also added some sultry color to her already amazing look:

Finally, Michelle Williams spiced things up with lipstick that complemented her dress:

Rooney Mara also showed off her style with bright red lips, contrasted against her blunt bangs and dark up-do.  However the internet seems to forgotten about her.  But she defied the neutral lip color craze, too.

What says you?  Colored or Nude lips?

Which style do you prefer?

*Side-note: I’m proud to announce most of my Oscar picks were right on! I only missed on Best Directing (I chose Woody Allen), Best Supporting Actor (I chose Max von Sydow), & Best Visual Effects (I chose The Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Go me!

Oh, hi there…

CrowndVic with a Flamingo

It turns out I have a blog!

It also turns out that 2012 proves to be a very busy year, or at least January is kicking my butt.

I didn’t intend to leave you high and dry. I promise I’ll be back soon!

The following topics are rattling around my head, waiting for me to write them & share them with you:

  • my Hunger Games obsession
  • my close friend’s surprise proposal
  • handmade love from MN
  • a photography update (new lens! new products!)
  • a married life update

So, there’s all that to look forward to reading.

Hang in there — and check back soon!!

Sister Sister

Salamon Wedding sisters

We live hundreds of miles away yet use the same brand of deodorant & makeup without knowing it.  Even though she looks like my mom and I look like my dad, we could be twins, save the years that separate us.  And while she’s good at math and sciences, I thrive at the language based stuffs, we both have a common love of dance and performance art.

We are so different yet so similar, and that’s what I love about my sister.

She gives the best advice, even though we both hate to talk on the phone.

And she’s always there for me.

Plus she’s got a kick ace family and some darn cute kids!

Happy Birthday, Marlo!  Love you to your toes!!!

Due to technical difficulties (aka my ignorance to WordPress and growing learning curve), this post did not go up on my sister’s actual bday. Happiest of days to my sis, always!

Matchy Matchy

engagement photo shoot matching

The other night, as Mike and I prepped for a friend’s birthday party, he asked me what I planned to wear.

I stared blankly and replied, “Something nice?”

I thought about my wardrobe contents, the weather, and the two different places on the agenda.  I came up with skinny jeans, a fancy black tank, and new booties.

Mike: So you’re wearing black, then?

Me: Yeah, unless that outfit doesn’t work out when I try it on….

Mike:  I need to know since I’m thinking about wearing my black sweater.

Me:  So wear it.

Mike: But I don’t want us to match.

Do you notice when couples wear the same color schemes? It’s not like we both headed out in the same sweater and same accessories.  We don’t spend the whole time standing together, either.  And heaven forbid we both want to wear our black leather jackets (of which his is a blazer & mine a bomber) — which you take off, anyways.

This bothers me not.    But seeing a girl wearing the same dress as me doesn’t shake me, either.

So what says you?

Does it matter if a couple slightly matches, and/or do you notice?

Do you have this issue with your significant other too?

National Botanical Gardens

_MG_7686

Saturday we ventured out into the first signs of winter (temps consistently below 50 during the day – I know…) and into the warm, lush greenhouses of the National Botanical Gardens.  Having lived in DC for six years and never visited, we figured seeing their “Season’s Greenings” made for a good excuse.Jingle Bells Poinsettia

Made with various plant materials, small creatures & mini-fairy houses with winding train tracks encircled the area.  The whimsical tiny abodes made me click, click away with my dSLR.

We wandered through the different areas, exploring plants and admiring the different shapes/scents/textures.

We even got a little interactive with the plants….

And! Found *my* plant!

The Orchids.  There are no words. (only a hard time choosing which pictures to share!!!)

Lastly, the most awesome part, the National Mall monuments creative out of botanical materials:

Who knew plants could be so fun?!
