Steppin’ Out Saturday 11.19.11 Early Thanksgiving

steppin out

Our good friend Sarah hosted Early Thanksgiving, with her roommate, yesterday.  She provided the bird, the ham, and some serious side dishes (despite her oven breaking on Friday! eek!).  Everyone else brought tons more food.  The selection? Amahzing:

The bottom right picture shows my contribution: my dad’s recipe for savory ginger mashed sweet potatoes.  They are my essential piece for the holidays.

Oh right, clothes:

sweater dress, scarf, leggings, and shoes:
all from Target (I know, right?!)
owl ring: ?? seller @ Eastern Market, DC
button earrings: oh sweet joy
up-cycled tshirt bracelet: cotton lane
new highlights: you can’t be me (ha ha!)
Do you celebrate early Thanksgiving? (Twice the fun & yumminess?)
Did you tell your stylist “a little more red” and end up with fire engine RED highlights? (which actually ended up rocking your world once you realized how cool it was?!)

This Steppin’ Out post is again brought to you by my hair and my most awesome stylist.
It seems I happen to schedule most my hair appointments on Saturdays.

Now that highlights are a “regular” part of my hair, I decided auburn low-lights should too be welcomed in my locks.  And feathers.  And why not add a random red streak on the underside (not to be confused with ombre).

My girl Veronica celebrated her upcoming wedding with a non-shower bridal brunch.  I finally had a chance to wear my new, fun dress & accessories from Forever 21 (with my new, fun hairs).

Also? Bottomless mimosas are good in theory.  Hence taking the pictures inside this time.

Tomorrow, it’s back to school for me!  Cheers to a great 2011-2012 school year!

(Wedding Recap) Getting Me Ready

Many ladies shared with me that they didn’t sleep the night before their wedding.  I wasn’t going to let their horrible night’s sleep get me! I totally took a Valium and slept like a baby. (<–take this advice)  My bestie (& bridesmaid) Meagan and I shared a junior suite the night before the big day.  Thank God for her, because she totally kept me sane.

That morning, when I woke up, I saw something on TV about a huge triathlon going on in DC.  It didn’t phase me as a problem until our hair/makeup girls were 30 minutes late.  Cue a little anxiety.  However we changed plans about a week prior to have them arrive earlier.  So basically they were late to arrive early.  We were fine with time.

My bridesmaids arrived at our honeymoon suite with the makings for great mimosas.  They even had the little aluminum bottles (like mini coke cans) of champagne we had when first trying on wedding dresses!

While I put my final post up as a single lady & my girls finalized their hair plans, I chatted with my mom, niece, brother-in-law, dad, and anyone else who took my mind off the fact my marriage was around the corner.

my niece, my salad, and me

This is me freaking out.
At one point I had to put on headphones and removed myself from the reality surrounding me.
(I was listening to KT Tunstall, for those of you curious)

Mah hairs
By the way, don’t eat a salad before your wedding.  I nibbled on it like a bunny, then scarfed down half of my niece’s cheeseburger.
Finally, the finished me!
THIS is one of my favorite pictures!
Veil me!
Grabbed “my things” and ready to go!
(note what’s important to me here…)

Awesome Hair Edition!

I raved about my hair stylist before, but yesterday he blew it out of the park.

He used some new magic wand to curl mah hairs, and the results are beyond beautiful.

I envy curly hair.  For a day, David made my dreams come true!
(sidenote: today my hair is still curly after sleeping on it, but now more relaxed and continued awesomeness)
So fun & fresh.  Great for a late spring/early summer rooftop party (which we went to that evening!)
Everyone complemented my hairs.
I should have brought more than 1 of David’s business cards.
I’m thinking our “day after” (more like week after) wedding shots will need to feature these curly locks!
I love how my highlights really pop.
Fabulous.

Wedding Countdown: 21 days!

Highlights!

About a week ago I let one of my favorite people do whatever they wanted to my hair.  See I fully trust my hair stylist, like no-holds-bar fully trust.  David at Salon Rouge suggested I consider highlights for my wedding, to jazz things up and make my ‘do pop in photos.  And I did what any trusting, yet slightly-scared-of-change client would do: waited a week before I needed it done & called up to find he was booked solid.  But never fear! David is so awesome he came in an hour early to squeeze me in.  Love. him.

So blah blah blah once my hair looked like this (on a Friday, after a long week and after an even longer day at work):

(Let’s not notice how homely I look)

(We can notice how farking long my hair got.  uh-maz-ing)
And after David worked his magic? Well let’s just say I have a new up-keep expense to add to my list of beauty expenditures.
Bam.
And just for good measure, let’s throw in one from my hair and makeup trial
Look at those highlights pop! (right? maybe?)
(and when did I get to be so narcissistic?!)
