Spring (break)!

Crowning Victoria Button

With the change in weather comes a change in my mindset.  This past week off allowed me to really recuperate, have a couple cavities filled, and even party a little with the beginning of Mike’s 30th birthday extravaganza.

Spring Shows What God Can Do

Our house will sell soon and we found what justmightbe our forever home (please don’t jinx me Universe by writing that here!).  This caused some happy and frustrated tears as we work out finances on a rushed time-table. But thankfully we have wonderful family who supports us and once we move in all will be well, because new house ahhhh!

Also can I get a cat call for the amazing new blog design? If you don’t know Becca of Jumping Jax Designs, then run on over there!  This design project took about 8 months, by no fault of Becca at all.  Becca listened to what I wanted and created designs with short turn-around time. After BlogHer ’12 I wanted a fresh look to “relaunch” this here blog.  And then I got distracted by life and well… I’m so glad it’s live now, because I feel like this is a wonderful time to start new, in so many ways.  Special thanks to my girl, Ali, who took care of all that coding ish and made Becca’s work appear here! (I’m so lucky to know talented people who take my abuse)

Things are coming together in ways I never thought possible.

I’m smiling more and questioning less.

I can say with understanding, “things work out as they should,” even though I still hate cliches.

All in all I had a typical spring break complete with reading, resting, tattooing (more later), and a little inebriation. I’m not totally ready to go back to work tomorrow, but when the weather feels like this who is?

The Best Croissant in Paris

Gontran Cherrier boulanger

Yes, I am still blogging about Paris because FOOD, obviously…

David Lebovitz, foodie blogger knows his quality Parisian noms. CNN echoed it while Travel and Leisure reiterated the same.

So while in Paris we went on a search for “the best croissant,” because why not eat tons of croissants while in Paris? (sidenote: the same goes for French wine and cheese.  Like the saying goes, “When in [Paris]…”) We found Gontran Cherrier, Artisian Boulanger  (22 Rue Caulaincourt, 18th Arr.) while exploring MontMartre.

Admittedly I’m not the best person to review food because: 1) really like eating all food and 2) will pretty much eat anything so long as it stays out of my allergy categories (shellfish, cauliflower, lima beans, and pumpkin).

When it comes to sweets and all things bread I pretty much like everything, too.

Translation: while I might love any and all bakery items in France and will love all over these yummy foods, do take the professionals’ word and try the “bests”.   You can’t go wrong!

Mike picked a baguette-like item, which really wasn’t a baguette (Parisians, feel free to comment below and help me out), filled with white chocolate bits and dried fruit.  Further translation: yummy, light, tasty, sweet bread goodness.

The croissants by Gontran Cherrier?

To die for! Flaky, light, crispy yet delicate.  So delicious. Fabuleux.

To meet the credit card charge minimum of €10 we happily picked out a few more treats.  This also evened out the calories burned while wandering the Rues and Avenues.

Now you can wipe that drool off your keyboard and enjoy your lunch Lean Cuisine and try not to think about your New Year’s Resolution of eating better.

You’re welcome.

(But seriously, if you’re in Paris go to Gontran Cherrier boulanger. Word on the street is Tokyo has one too!)

Happy Halloween, 2012

Months ago Mike decided we were dressing up as Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein for Halloween.

Time went by and we never picked up make-up, supplies, clothing or anything relating to this idea.

Cue us, frantically searching couple’s costume ideas 2 weeks before Halloween, and the weekend before an early Halloween party.  We didn’t want to pay for the original idea and instead opted to fabricate our own….if we found a better idea.

I threw out a few ideas that Mike vetoed and vice-versa.  Our back up option included something political, and while our friends are like minded, I dare not stir the pot.

So I present to you, our D.I.Y. Social Media costumes!

Hopefully you can figure out I am dressed as Twitter and Mike is Facebook.   I “made” both costumes, if that isn’t painfully obvious.  Since I spent so much time on Mike’s poster board of plenty (ahem, a blend of the old and new FB complete with fill-in-your-own-wall!), my whiteboard meets feather boa Twitter get-up lacks a little…

PSY from Gangnam style can be seen in the background here.  I appreciate Eddie not totally photo-bombing this to the fullest extent he is capable of (brother I never wanted…)!

Also, I tweeted everything I wrote on my whiteboard, for the most part.  A new fun game became “Where’s my PEN?!” for much of the night.  “Oh, in my pocket” or “Found it!” resounded loudly to reassure friends, frequently.  PS-dot-com, those of you not in the cool-kids-club: I dig Twitter & Instagram.

So yeah, Happy Halloween from Mike and Vicki.  I hope you get more treats than tricks (or whatever your pleasure may be!)

I love this costume.

More on the outfit (which I’m a bit obsessed with) and this exciting visit to a winery,

coming up!
