Bokeh

Yes you read that right.  That word is pronounced (bō’kā) and it’s Japanese.

Bokeh refers to the visual quality of an out of focus area in a photographic image.  It’s that dreamy, creamy, sometimes bright and always fuzzy background area when done right, can make you swoon.

I watched a youtube video on it, trying to wrap my brain around how to make my photos all purdy-like.

Basically, the closer you are & the higher your apeature, the more bokeh you will achieve.

But how to do make those awesome shapes in your bokeh with a “normal” lense?

There’s a lovely DIY article using black paper, scissors, tape, and your camera.  I’m off to try this and bring it with me on my holiday adventures.

Because with potential like this?

Who wouldn’t want to a litttle bokeh in their lives?

when i first got into photography and before I took my first class in digital photography i read about bokeh from this http://www.diyphotography.net/diy_create_your_own… I dunno what camera you have but if you don't already have a nifty fifty lens you *must* get it :D its my most favorite lens of all time :D especially because it creates lovely blurs :)

yeah that's the article I link to in the post :) I always just thought about aperture about the background, but never fathomed you could create shapes in the blur…

yup :D there is soooo much about photography to learn. i have tons of books (some i have yet to crack open) but in the class i took at VCC i learned the basic terms but it still makes my head spin. Flickr groups (esp for your specific DSLR) is a good way to get tips and tricks. Photography is one expensive hobby!
